Halloween costume contest and gift draw · Last updated Oct 31, 2026

1. Organizer

The contest is run by Gulbar, 636 10 Ave SW, Calgary, Alberta (contact: DM @gulbar_yyc on Instagram or ask staff). The voting app is free to use.

2. Who can take part

Anyone 18 or older at Gulbar on the night of the contest.

3. No purchase necessary

Voting, entering the costume contest and entering the gift draw are free. Voting cards are free: no purchase is needed to get one. Ask staff.

4. Costume contest: how to enter

• Staff photograph your costume with your permission, or you send your own photo from the contestant page while sign-up is open.
• The host approves entries before they appear. The host may refuse or remove entries that are offensive, unsafe, not a costume, or not yours.

5. Voting

• One code = one vote for one costume. A vote can't be changed.
• Voting is open during the time shown on the site (usually from 11 PM, Calgary time, for 30 minutes). The server clock decides when it opens and closes.
• The costumes with the most votes win 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Votes are tallied by the server; each voter gets a receipt to check their vote was counted.
• Ties: if contestants are tied for a top-3 place when voting closes, the order is settled by a random draw run by the host on the site. The draw is logged and can't be repeated.
• The host may void votes from misused, stolen or leaked codes. Every such change is logged.

6. Prizes

Prizes change each night. The prizes for each night, and their approximate value, are announced on Gulbar's Instagram (@gulbar_yyc) and at the bar before voting opens. Prizes are awarded as announced, can't be exchanged for cash, and may be replaced by a prize of similar value if needed. Winners are announced at the bar at the end of voting.

7. Instagram gift draw

• How to enter: type your Instagram handle when you vote (optional). One entry per voting code.
• The draw: after voting, the host runs a random draw on the site among that night's entries. The server picks the winner with a secure random number; each draw is logged. A handle can win only once per night.
• Chances of winning depend on how many entries are received that night.
• Winners are contacted by Instagram DM from @gulbar_yyc and must correctly answer a skill-testing question before receiving a prize. If a winner can't be reached or doesn't answer before the end of the event, another entry may be drawn.

8. Instagram

This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram or Meta. By entering, you release Instagram and Meta from any liability related to it. Questions go to Gulbar, not Instagram.

9. General

• The organizer may change, pause or cancel the contest if something outside its control (technical failure, cheating, safety) affects it, and will announce any change at the bar.
• Personal information is handled as described in the privacy notice and deleted 48 hours after the last draw.
• These rules are governed by the laws of Alberta and Canada.
